Default What to use to fill in safety groove with Red.

So I've spent 8 hours +/- cleaning up an old shotgun. Almost ready to put it back together. The safety is a regular push button type behind the trigger guard. When it's in "fire" the red band that shows around the button was old and brittle and crumbled away. Is there anything permanent that I can fill the little groove with so it's red again? A crayon or china marker would work but it's permanent enough. Brownell's sells some lacquer sticks that might work. Thoughts or other options?

red china marker. It's permanent enough, in my experiences.

Hmm. Maybe it's worth a shot. I use a white one to fill the dots in the sights on one gun but always have to touch it up. I guess this would be abused a lot less.
