    Default Tech-Sights

I have done some research into Tech-Sights and am seriously consiering them for both my 795 and my Saiga. I have read nothing but good things but I am still leary of dropping that much for some irons, I thgouht maybe you guys had some input to share.

    Thoughts? Opioions? Possible Alternatives?

I've got them on my 10/22, and there really is no comparison to the stock sights. Worth every penny.

    +1
I have a scoped model 60 and wanted to keep one of my rimfires with iron sights (and retire my Nylon 66). The Tech-Sights gave a longer sight radius and were similar to the sights on the M1 Garand which I am more familiar with.

Well this thread has confirmed that they are a good product. Now its decision time. Sights for the Saiga or Marlin first. Hmmmm. Decisions. Decisions. Thoughts?

Well when I go to the range (Roch Brooks) I normally take both.

LC I thought about which one I would shot more if I put the sights on one or the other and realized I want sights on both but money is the issue.

Hmm...who needs a savings account anyways?

Well, here's the thing about Tech-Sights .. for me anyway. For accuracy at the range, then yes they are generally much better than standard sights. I wouldn't put them on a gun I considered a ( medium range ) primary defensive weapon though. I can't speak for everyone, and I know some people would probably say exactly the opposite, but I find target acquisition to be slow with peep sights for practical shooting when shots needs to be aimed and fired quickly.

The AK versions are hella expensive. Marlin first to see if you like them.

Make sure you also get a sight adjustment tool. If you don't have a sling on your 795, they sell the elusive 1.25" M14-style.

I've got a Mojo sight on my AK. I hate the standard notch/post sights on an AK, and this thing makes it so much easier to aim. And I definitely would use them over stock sights in any sort of armed emergency. Much quicker to aim.

So I installed both sights today.

The sight for my Marlin 795 installed very easily but does not sit level with the receiver. Not a huge issue for me as the stock sights were crooked as well. I am going to look into a solution for this problem be it a shim or removing material from the surface the sight is contacting and allowing just the sides of the clamp to hold the sight in place. My groups went from 6 inches at 50yds with stock sights to 4 inch groups with the tech sights. I find this amazing because I have NEVER used a peep or aperture sight before, with practice I am sure this group size will continue to decrease.

The sight for my Saiga installed easily as well, once i figured out how the guide rod came apart with some help from Quackers. The rear trunnion was sung fitting and after some direct application of force between the buttstock and the bench the sight slid into the correct position. After assembly was complete I tried to adjust the sights just to be certain that everything was in working order. I tried to adjust the windage and the tool I purchased for 5 bucks promptly bent. I was unable to turn the windage correction which I will either disassemble and fix or send back to Tech Sights for a replacement. Luckily for me after sending 1, yes 1 round downrange i knew i would not need to adjust the sights at all. At 100 yds my groups went from 8 inch to 4inch with just the new sights.

So two things were learned from this.

I shoot better with aperture sights.

Tech Sights are worth the money.
