Default California law to limit Ammo

Like all to see this crap, only a matter of time before good old NY tries this one..

Part of the Article..

Under the new proposal, anyone who purchases ammunition would be required to provide a thumbprint.
If approved, the city's chief of police would have the power to approve all new firearms dealers and impose strict rules on ammunition storage and record-keeping, matching existing state laws on handgun ammunition

Seems like Big brother does'nt like Armed Citizens. This will not solve anything.

I don't think it'll ever pass, but you never do know...

...seriously though, I'm just looking for an excuse to move to PA.

It did pass and it's statewide in California. Not sure why this individual city is trying to pass their own law when the folks in Sacramento already did it for them. Maybe they want to include all ammo under the requirement and not just handgun ammo as the statewide bill did. Guess they are worried about all those gang crimes committed with .30-06s.....

Here's a news story about the original legislation.

Quote:
One of the bills that he [Governor Schwarzenegger] signed was Assembly Bill 962. It requires handgun ammunition to be kept behind the counter where customers cannot access it without assistance. It also requires gun shop owners to thumbprint people who buy handgun ammunition, as well as record their identification and provide that information to police.

Sorry, I meant here. I don't think it would pass here.

How? It's imposed at point of sale. You wanna buy ammo, hand over your drivers license, fill out this form and cough up your thumbprint. Not willing to do those things? No ammo for you.

I can picture CA filing a lawsuit against those states that sell to CA residents. I mean if NY tried to sue states to the south of us "who are responsible for many of the guns being brought into NY." Right or wrong, I wouldn't put it past CA to try the same thing and go after the sellers.

I don't think he's anti-gun in the manner of Sarah Brady or Carolyn McCarthy. He just doesn't care enough about guns to spend any political capital defending them. Like our Junior Senator, he decided that he valued the office more than he valued taking a stand on this issue. If he was Governor of Utah or Montana instead of California you can bet money that he would adopt the opposite position and become an outspoken supporter of 2nd amendment rights.

In a way I actually respect him less than I do Ms. Brady. At least Ms. Brady believes in something. Politicians who shift positions to pander to the electorate don't believe in anything other than themselves.

Especially since he vetoed this thing 2x already, but let it pass this time. Douchinator.

Have you been keeping track of Bloomberg's antics? He's already working on that crap.

He had the NYPD pulling over cars they had followed from out of state gun shows. People they had been watching buy things that were illegal to own in the city. Not sure how it ended up, or if they still do it.

Always do some crazy Ivans before you cross the border back into enemy territory.

I'm not sure. Haven't been following that particular boneheaded idea. He has so many of them that they're hard to keep track of anymore.

Today's was putting a state legislator up to introducing legislation making it illegal to possess a firearm while intoxicated.

About the same as it works without it, which is to say, it really doesn't. In all seriousness, this is just some dumbass attempt by some dumbass legislature to justify their dumbass job. Gotta keep cranking out the feel good laws every year or voters might actually a: learn to think for themselves and b: find out how worthless law-makers really are.

Also, CA cannot legally interfere with interstate commerce (federal jurisdiction), which it would be doing by telling people they cannot order online from out of state suppliers. Can't wait until that gets tried in court.

So the language of the law has no mention people reloading their own ammo?
