On Monday, September 28, 2009 there will be a lecture on identity theft and economic crime at Genesee Conservation League in Penfield, NY. The lecture starts at 6:30pm.
The lecture will explore issues regarding the use of the internet, phones and mail order. It will look at major ways that thieves steal your information or use your identity to make purchases through:
* Phishing
* Spyware
* Mail theft
* Shoulder surfing
* Skimming
* Hackers
* Data purveying
* Dumpster diving
* Check fraud
Also discussed will be how to best protect yourself from these threats.
The lecture is being hosted by Rochester Personal Defense and will be lead by Steven Coleman, CRPC, financial adviser, Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management. Steve Coleman joined Merrill Lynch as a Financial Advisor in 2006 after a 20 year career in the Automotive Aftermarket. Steves educational background is in engineering, mathematics, and business. In July 2007, Steve earned his Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPCฎ), a designation offered through the College for Financial Planning.
Guest speakers will be Investigator Fred Austin and Sgt. Michael Bihrle, Monroe County Economic Crimes Unit.
