Lightbulb Sleepr's AR Build Thread

So yesterday I finally got the phone call that I have been waiting for for the past 10 days, my AR stripped lower reciever had came in!

Parts List (will update as I order...) - 10/20/09

-Red River Tactical Stipped Lower
-Rock River Arms Lower Parts Kit
-CProducts 10 Round Magazine
-Magpul Enhanced Trigger Gaurd
-BCM bolt Carrier Group Assy
-BCM Forward Assist
-Ejection Port Cover Assy

01/18/10 UPDATE

-Red River Tactical Stripper Upper
-BCM Mod4 'Gunfighter' Charging Handle
-Magpul MOE Grip
-(5) Orilite Pre-ban 30 Round Magazines

02/15/10 UPDATE

-Allen Tactical Soft Gun Bag - Black
-Magpul ACS (Milspec) Stock - BLACK
-Magpul MBUS Front & Rear BUIS - BLACK
-Stock Hardware Mounting Kit (Mil-Spec) - H2 Buffer
-YHM Diamond Series Carbine Handgaurd
-YHM Carbine Black Plated Gas Tube w/Pin
-YHM 4 Rail Gas Block
-YHM 14.5in Barrel w/pinned/welded AWB Compliant Muzzle Break

I put the parts kit in the lower last night, everything went really well except for the bolt catch/release. I forgot to switch to a smaller punch before finishing the pin, and made a small small mark on the lower. Nothing a little touch-up paint can't fix. Other then that, I was suprised how easily everything went together.

Here are some pictures. Sorry about my crappy lighting, the iPhone struggles with that. Also should have wiped the lower down better, I used a lot of gun oil to make sure everything was properly lubed up.

I picked up the lower directly from Red River Tactical.

Red River Tactical Supply - Firearm Accessories and Tactical Equipment

You can see their 3 lower combo's and better pictures (mine suck) here....

Red River Tactical Supply

My little brother stumbled on the company and ordered a lower for his build. Once I saw it, saw the amazing quality and finish, and the unique look of it, I had to get one and I am happy I did. I spoke with the owner Coy, he is a police officer in Texas, who has the lower machined/finished per his specification, but originally I believe they are "Mega - Gator" blanks.

Another cool this is they are all low seriel number, my brother is below 100, and I am below 300, so it's cool to get something that is different from the regular lowers out there!

Nice. I can't use the site at work since our internet is corked up, but looks like an interesting site.

I have a solid list of parts to order once cash comes rolling in. I will post some more pictures of progress as they occur. The only real debat I have is which Barrel to go with, and concerns with head spacing on home assembly.

I have a set of go/no-go gauges for 5.56. I'm sure we could figure out a way to check your rifle when it's done. I can stop in Syracuse if I happen to be passing through or you could come out to rochester.

That's awesome. I read in the other thread about you having tools, so I figured I would shoot you a PM and make the trek out your way if you had to time to use those gauges. I assembled the lower fine, and bought the BCG as an assembly, and haven't really purchased any super-cheap parts, so I am hoping for a nice clean build. This has potential to be a slow build since the Holiday season is comming up, and I want to buy everything right the first time.

Wahooo, more fuzzy iPhone photo's from last night!!! Did a dry fit of the BCG and charging handle.

These new mags are pretty snazzy. I will def. be interested in those new rebuild kits with the upgraded follower in the future!

I need to get my pin set back so I can put the forward assist in place.

That thing is awesome.

Here is another cool AR tool that fits in your pistol grip. Not as much stuff but I thought it was a cool idea.
Samson Mfg: AR-15, AK-47, Sig 556 Rails and Accessories: Samson Field Survivor FS-002: AR-15/M16 Tool Kit inside your Magpul grip

That's the old version, new one is supposed to be ready in a month or so. The owner was just at the SHOT show, I'm sure he'll have some pictures within a few days.

Is that the new one? It's listed as the same price but has some different stuff in it. I don't know anything about them, I just saw them in a magazine a couple months ago. Thought it was cool but not $120 cool since I only plink at the range.

Yea those tool kits are really awesome, but for 120 bucks, it's kind of hard to justify right now! Gotta get a stock assy, and barrell assy first!!

Gas Block is on its way We've got a bunch of tools in stock also that you can check out at the opening. Did you already get a stock or pick one out? I've got some RRA operators coming back in, and I've got the basic A2 and CAR ones as well

Nice! I forgot to add that to my ordered list in the original post!! Exciting to see this build starting to come together, although the wallet is getting pretty empty, haha.

I wasn't sure if you had any AR multi-tools at the shop. I will be in touch....
