The easiest way I know of to displace oxygen and this even works with food stores is by adding a piece of dry ice. Carbon dioxide wont force oxidizing of metal

sonuva! I wish this was here LAST week. I just put in my grape posts last weekend. I suppose I could pull one or two back out for a minute.

If it comes to the point of having to bury your guns, isin't it already time to dig them up?

    1. Anyone know how sensitive the Gummit metal detectors are?

    2. Do buried guns need to be NY AWB compliant?

    3. How many rounds of buried ammo per cache is recomended?

    4. Are "decoy" burials of say old pieces of pipe and car parts, (got a couple rusting away on blocks anyway,) a good idea?

    5. Will this lead to shovels being illegal to open or concealed carry in NY state?

1- No idea, but if it is like most gubmint contracted stuff, we have nothing to worry about.

2-Yes, include a copy of your purchase receipt for proof.

    3-200-5000

4-Strongly recommended, in clusters of 5-20 to frustrate the hell out of searchers, but no closer than 1 mile to your real cache. 10 percent should contain the gold foil covered pieces of chocolate coins as rewards for hard searching.

5-Always have a dog with you when you carry it to claim it is your pooper scooper.

A lot of serious thought has already gone into the topic of caching weapons and related gear. Both civilian books and military manuals have been written on the subject. Do some discrete research and avoid making rookie mistakes. These manuals and books will answer most of your questions.

Caching a few weapons in a secure location isn’t such a bad idea. Keeping all of your eggs in one basket is a universally recognized bad idea. The idea that one should diversify his financial investments to secure against loss of the whole portfolio can and should be applied to firearms.

Also giving some thought to pre-cast septic tanks/cisterns. I can get one with a manhole extension to grade and an inlet hole would work for a vent. (Thinking combo gun cache and spider hole.) Nice clearing in the woods toward the back of the compound where i could bury and camoflage the opening.
