Smile My Kimber Eclipse Custom II 1911.

As everyone already knows, when you buy a Kimber, you need not change anything. It's simply awesome as is. BUT, I think I am going down the road of getting my Eclipse Custom modded to competition specs. So far, I haven't gotten anything done internally, but I plan on purchasing a few parts to spice her up a little. All that has been done so far has been the grips and I bought new mags. I went with the Chip McCormick magazines and I love them. I will show before and after pictures below. Tell me what you all think!

    BEFORE:
This is how she looked the day I brought her home from the gun shop.

    AFTER:
This is what she looks like with the new magazine I bought (Bought the 15 rounders in a 3 pack for about $70) and the new SOLID pewter US Army grips that my wife bought me for Valentine's Day.

Feel free to send comments my way on what you'd recommend for upgrades.

Just for those who are into the rival between 1911 and Glock (the Mustang vs. Charger fued of handguns) Below are both my handguns (as of now), a Kimber Eclipse Custom II and Glock 21, both chambered in .45ACP.

Grips on the Kimber look awesome. Are the 15 round mags preban? Are they legal in NY. Just out of curiosity, if the SHTF right now, would you grab the Kimber or the Glock? I'd love to buy (and probably will soon) a Kimber, but I think I will always carry a Glock. JMO.

IIRC he's stationed somewhere down south right now, so no preban/postban BS.

I like those grips but are they comfortable to shoot with?

Honestly, I LOVE 1911's, but in all honestly, I'd prefer to carry my Glock. It may be bulkier, BUT, I think of it in terms that the Glock 21 with 13 rounds of .45 ACP is still lighter than my 1911 with only 8 shots of .45ACP. Plus, I feel it is far easier to quickly acquire a target with the Glock sights (from holster to target) than my 1911. My love for a 1911 is far stronger than that of a Glock, but for carry, I don't want to scuff up my princess. Lol. I love Kimber as well, can't go wrong with Kimber. As for the mags, as said previous to this post, I am stationed down south (away from the communist gun laws of NY) here in NC where open-carry is warmly welcomed and there is no magazine capacity limit. I saw a dude walking around with an AK strapped to his back down a sidewalk in broad daylight. 'Gotta love the south!

Thanks for the comment, and YES! In my opinion, I feel the grips give the gun better weight distribution. It balances it out for me, but that might just be me. As for comfort, I honestly can hardly feel a difference with them versus the original wood grips. You feel little raised parts, but since the grips are pewter and have the cheese-grated effect, much like the front and rear of the pistol frame, I feel it gives me a better grip on it compared to the wood.

I missed the part about being stationed down south. Those grips are definitely sweet. I wouldn't want to scuff them up either. Good luck with both of them.

Yea this guy is a buddy of mine, just bought his house down south, did quite a bit of trading up here when he would visit so he made an account on here. He keeps trying to convince me to move down there with him lol.

Nice looking Kimber with those grips. I've also had excellent luck with Chip McCormick Power Mag magazines in my Kimber.

They were purchased. I don't know what site my wife used but last I saw, they were about $100 on eBay. And hell yeah to that! I'd love to get a shoot day setup. PM me your number and we'll definitely go shoot some time.

Lol, wow, just noticed that. Lol, the Eclipse Custom II was the one that as SOON as I saw it, I knew I was walking out of the store with it. Even with the original grips, it looks beautiful. I didn't know the original grips were solid wood. They look like plastic, but they are definitely wood.

Yeah, I love the chip mags. I've had a couple jams, but I think it's because I haven't worn them in and I haven't broke in the kimber yet.
