    Default Steel Target ammo?

What's the "proper projectile" for steel targets. I usually use 230gr FMJ 45 ACP reloads in IDPA & USPSA. I was invited to a steel match but was told no 230gr Factory Hardball ammo, to often fragments comeback at shooters. Is this from the FMJ? Is 230 round nose lead no jacket okay? He had no answer. What do most shooters use?

im not 100% sure but i think the best rounds for steel targets are soft points. all the steel targets i looked at on-line that i wanted to buy mostly say soft-points only and also say no FMJ.

Any USPSA or IDPA match will be using quality steel.

You can use any projectile you want as long as it is NOT steel core.

The info from your link says just the opposite. Faster rounds say 1225 fps fragment better than a slower speeds that ricochets more. I was going to reload with a slower fps goal. Maybe I should just find a different match to shoot steel.
