Hi,
I was wondering if anybody on this board has experience using the various CCW designed shirts that are out there, for instance, the 5.11 Covert Casual or similar shirts made by Woolrich and Blackhawk. What is you opinion of them?
Thanks,
Matt

They look nice, but personally I wouldn't drop $50 on a button-down shirt unless I had a job working under cover for law enforcement and work paid/reimbursed me for it. Best thing to do is go a size up from your typical shirt and it will work great for concealment.

I wouldn't be caught dead in a shirt that cost LESS than $50.00 !
Oo and they have plaid
Keep an eye on the closeout section on lapolicegear, they go on clearance for around $20-30 once in a while.

I love ArmaLite rifles cause I can always rely on them to get the job done.
My opinion is that their commercials offer no real value to why you would actually by one? They show the guy wearing the shirt not tucked in and he has a gun under his armpit? OK I can do that with a $12 shirt. Whats more interesting is the guy who wears his tucked in. What advantage does the shirt have? Plus I need a fitted shirt. Are these fitted? Otherwise, to get the nexk size I need it looks like I am wearing a tent.

I tend to look at all stuff like this as an excuse to rope in the newbies and video gamers into spending too much money with buzz words like 'tactical' and 'covert'. Personally I've never had a problem concealing or drawing from a plain old button down shirt. Even if they did offer any advantage at all, I wouldn't want to train myself to perform better only when wearing certain specific clothes. Seems pretty counter productive to me.
I bought a 5:11 Comfort Short sleeve concealment shirt, On line from a police Clothing store in Louisiana , for about $35.00 + shp. I got it in the Brick Red color & I wore it on & off all through last summer,? I enjoyed it a lot for the price & as a concealment garment it worked out just fine,? The shirt is light but thick enough with a pattern to cover up any type of a holster, that one intends to wear,? It has snaps & buttons for a fast draw etc.I may buy another one for this coming summer also.?
I have a couple 5.11 short sleeve concealment shirts. I like them a lot. They are very comfortable, cover a gun well, have velcro releases at the sides and snaps at the front for easy access to your firearm and the inside pockets are very handy. The only down side I can offer is that they are a bit warm in hot muggy weather. That doesn't stop me from wearing them often all through the summer. I will be watching for a good sale and get a couple more.
Those are similar to what I wear and refer to as my "Fat guy going out" shirts, except I don't' pay more than $20 for them and they are a lot nice looking. Look for guayabera shirts aka Mexican Wedding Shirts. I have an all white one, and a couple different colors with patterns on them like dragons and a car at teh beach scene, Walmart usually has them

I have one 5.11 Button up. It's a bit small for me now as it shrunk a wee bit, and I put on a few x-tra lbs.
That being said... They aren't too shabby... Nicely made... BUT, NOT a necessity...
Also... anyone who who knows more then the basics of firearm handling probably can spot a 5.11 or other "Tacticool" Gear from a mile away...
If you see certain clothes lines (Boots/Hats/Pants/Belt/Shirt), even if not marked, you can pretty much spot your CCW Enthusiast, LEO, Corrections Officer, Etc...
Sooooo... With that in mind, Be aware of what your project by the means of how your dress...
