If there is one blog post you're ever going to read make it this one. Hopefully it gets some of you thing about whether or not you have the coverage that is right for you.

When we bought our home I doubled the standard coverage. I believe it was $5,000 for firearms and now we have $10,000. It was pretty cheap to get the additional $5,000 of coverage.

For that much additional coverage on my travelers renters insurance it would have doubled my annual premium of $160-ish.

That's probably because you're renting.

Hmm, I thought the NRA insurance was $1k per gun, not $1k total. Guess I should talk to my insurance agent about a rider on my renters policy.

Darkvibe, Travelers is overpriced. At the risk of advertising you might consider looking into New York Central Mutual. They are a smaller outfit that exclusively service Upstate New York. They don't write in any other states and only write in NYC for the assigned risk pool (as all insurance companies doing business in NYS are required to do). I've found them to be pretty competitive. The big drawback is they have fairly strict underwriting guidelines and you'll have trouble getting with them if you lack a clean driving record or have a history of a lot of claims.

hi all i picked up a personal policy through state farm its 12000 for 235 a year showed a picture of my safe and a list of guns that were appraised by my dealer with the home owners and nra should cover about 15 000 my guess ???
