    Default ar-15 school? / need a teacher

    Step one: purchase ar15 CHECK
Step two: get all your friends to awe in amazement of a "military" rifle CHECK
Step three: fire about 180 rounds and make some new friends CHECK
Step four: have no idea what people are talking about when they say uppers, lowers, receivers, types of triggers, etc CHECK!

    LOL (maybe not?)

So with all that being said, i'm curious to know if someone would like to spend some time with me (at a range, or my house or yours, whatev) going thru all the different parts of my rifle so that I can better understand exactly what it is I have, and why some parts are better than others, etc? I feel that owning a rifle is like owning a car... Yes I know how to put it to fire, load a mag and pull the trigger, much like I know gas, brake, clutch & shifting, but I wanna know every aspect of my rifle so that I can have the most knowledge of it, as well as what i'll be looking for in my next rifle

I'm sure I could help you out with that. I'll write something up, thread like, and post it here. If that isn't enough info I can meet you at the range some day. Wanting to know everything about your rifle is great because it can save you a lot of money, headaches, and a lot more.

I have to run to the city right now but I'll have it up by tonight. I'll try to give a brief explanation of the main parts, their function and a diagram that shows what they are.

Upper Receiver – This refers to the part which is the foundation of a complete upper receiver. The upper receiver is completed by attaching a barrel, delta ring assembly, forearm, gas block, gas tube, muzzle attachment, and inserting a bolt carrier group. The upper receiver is connected to the lower receiver by a pivot pin in the front and a take down pin in the rear hole of the upper and lower receivers.
Lower Receiver – Refers to the actual receiver of the firearm, is completed by inserting a lower parts kit and attaching a stock, buffer tube, buffer, and recoil spring.
Barrel Assembly – Consists of the barrel, gas block, forearm/handguards, muzzle attachment, delta ring assembly, and gas tube.
Bolt Carrier Group (BCG) – Consists of the bolt carrier, bolt, firing pin, cam pin, and retaining pin. This unit is responsible for the loading, firing, and ejection of the round.
Charging Handle – Is responsible for charging the firearm, when pulled back on an empty chamber with a loaded magazine inserted into the rifle this will load the first round into the chamber.

I'd make myself available to teach you how to use it if you like.

The BEST way to learn the workings of an AR-15 is to build one.

Guess you better get going on building your second AR

Right here is key, building an AR will teach you more than reading or watching anything available. If you need help building one there's plenty of us here to help.

Please tell us that you've at least stripped everything down and at least know how to do that?

i've only taken out the one pin that allows access to cleaning the barrel by using the other pin as a hinge, and I know how to take out the bolt and charging handle. Beyond that, I don't know how to do anything, hence th reason for this post
