I'm sick of not being able to hear people talk with my regular ear muffs. It's to the point of driving me crazy! What electronic hearing protection do you use or would you recommend?

When I took my training class last winter lots of people (including the instructor) were using peltor tactical 6S muffs.  I was thinking about getting some at the time so I asked about them and the instructor said they were the best he had found for the money.  Midway puts them on sale a lot.  They are on sale for $60 right now.  I never ordered them so no first hand experience.

Electronic ones don't mitigate sound as well as regular muffs which is part of the reason I never got them.  Most are like 19dB rating.  My harbor freight $10 muffs have a rating of 27 or 32dB I think.  Big difference.  Most of the people at the class were wearing foam ear plugs under them.

I have a pair of older silencio electronic muffs that I borrowed from my dad and haven't given back yet.  They pick up interference from fluorescent lights so bad I don't use them.  The guy said that doesn't happen with his peltor's.

I think that was the biggest negative I have against the 6S' is they are susceptible to rain and I love to shoot in the rain!

I Have lost several pair of electronics because of the rain and snow,  and as you know,  I shoot in everything,

The Comtacs and swattacs are expensive, but if you keep your eye open, you can usually get some good deals on the enternet on them.   I shoot alot and I respect my eyes and my ears alot.  They have to last me a life time,,

I have some cheap ear plugs from dicks that supposedly have "baffles" and they really work good for hearing people and muffling sound.

I have been using the Peltors for about four years now. I love them. It took a while to get used to them, but they are fine. Outdoors, when I am running a line, they are fine. Indoors, I plug too as the noise is just a bit more and I don't want to have the slight ringing at the end of the session.

Actually, I am looking to get some new ones. I'll look up the others that Ron mentioned.

I do think they are 31NRR. The 6s ones are only 23
